I'll take the 2 points too but in a stacked central division I would not be happy about giving Dallas 1.

Craw was freaking great, team played better in the 3rd and 4th, overcame the 1 goal deficit and won in SO. PP-20.0%, PK-83.3. Bickell smashed people. So basically all the last year issues are solved and the Cup is definitely ours. Nothing to overanalyze and cry about
Great and fun game to watch, love da Hawks

After getting pretty much manhandled and sleepwalking through the first two periods it was nice to see that they can snap themselves out of it when they picked up the pace big time in the third and OT. Hopefully we'll start getting a full game of that kind of effort.

Also thought it looked like Saad has added a new gear. Maybe it's just me but it seemed like he was flyin out there. It would be nice to see him start combining that with his size and strength to take it hard to the net. He and Bicksy need to stop playing like they're 20lbs lighter than they are. That being said I thought both of them had solid games last night.

Either way it speaks to the talent of this team that they can play that poorly for most of the game and still come away with a W against a very dangerous team. Kaner's shootout goal

While the Hawks were playing a so-so game, the real exciting news has gone un-noticed...

and that is CHIC is nominated for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Few acts changed the landscape of musical history more than this one. Congrats to the Chic band because you are certainly WAY better than Yes, Iron Maiden and Deep Purple.

A couple of observations:

I don't think its time to worry about the TOI......yet. Think about it. The number of penalties skewed the numbers. With 6 PK's and 5 PP's, that amount to almost 20 minutes of special teams time. I think TVR got 1 shift on the PK that amounted to about a minute of ice time, but other than that those guys were stapled to the bench during special team times. Same can be said for 4th line other than Kruger, who had 40% of his ice time on the PK. That much special teams time effects all the numbers. First line PP spent almost the full PP in the DAL zone a few times, heck, Kane, Sharp, Keith all had like 6 mins of PP time. If it becomes a trend, then its time to worry, not after 1 game.

Runblad ==== not good. Took some poor angles and was beaten bad the few times he was on the ice. I'm guessing Cumiskey plays on Sat.

Refs were brutal. A couple of questionable calls and non-calls both ways. As someone stated earlier, if your gonna take Morin for getting the stick up when being charged well after the whistle, you gotta take Roussell and Garbut for the same crap.

Like Q said after the game...call the cops because we stole 2 pts.

Score could have been 5-1 by the end of the 1st. I remember one rush where the Stars had at least 3 quality chances within 10 seconds and Crawford was huge. Never was a lehtonen fan and that first goal was just weak.

I wasn't impressed with Rundblad's play either. Same with Morin. I saw more of the regular Morin I've seen in Rockford for the past few seasons - unmotivated, looking slow while making some real questionable decisions during the game.

I know it's only game one and that can change as time goes on. Then again, I'm not holding my breath for Rundblad to put it together. I'd bet he's locked in the press box for good by November 1st.

If I see more of the Morin I've seen over the last few seasons, I don't believe that he'll be around for the long haul.

Agree with this. The Hawks looked awful. They looked like a bunch of rag-tags playing in a preaseason game. No fire. No drive. No chemistry. I was floored by how well Crawford played, keeping the Hawks in the game after what seemed like a dozen fantastic opportunities from Stars' sticks. Crawford was never out of position, always tracking pucks, and I thought he showed excellent agility. Sharp looked good. Hammer looked good. I thought Keith played well but he was a little tentative, especially bringing the puck in on the PP.

I'd like to see Richards and Shaw switch spots asap. Shaw is best when he's on the 3rd line and there was really no point in getting Richards unless the Hawks were at least going to give him a shot with Kane and Saad.

As for last night, nice win. The first 40 minutes were pretty brutal but the Hawks took over in the 3rd and OT. More of that please.

Richards was invisible with Bickell and Morin. Shuffle the deck, see how he does with Kaner and Saad.

Bickell looked like he was skating faster and getting more physical in the third while riding with Toews and Kane.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bickell/Toews/Kane line again for a few games. Also, I thought that the line of Sharp/Richards/Hossa looked alright too. I wouldn't mind seeing that line together for a couple of games.

Not a bad idea. Saad on the third line with Shaw and Smith?

JJ,
Good read as usual. I noticed the Hawks struggling (again) to keep up with a bigger/skilled and physical team. I know the belief is that finesse always beats brute strength, but I still don't buy into it 100%. you see it all the time, a team that can out-physcial another team can make such a difference. I can't help but think that if the gimmick (shootout) didn't exsist, and there was more OT to be played, the outcome may have been different.
The Hawks are probably one of the smallest teams in the league and they have no physcial prescence- Bickell certainly doesn't use his size. I get a little nervous with a lot of teams, like Dallas for example, who bulked up and can play both the physical game as well as the skilled game.
Do you think teams like this will take their toll on the Hawks, as they continue to batter them around?

No line was very good through 40 last night

That being said, outside of Bickells one crushing hit, he was massively invisible. He is another one that needs to play up to his paycheck.

Crawford certainly did last night, Bickell needs to do more than one big hit a night for $4 per

Call my obsessive, but I got up at 3 am and i figured I use my new STREAMS subscription to rewatch the game, since I missed watching a big part of period one while blabbing on the phone with TRUE GRIT, who was nice enough to call me to tell the Brighthouse Cable though not showing teh game in the HD Centre ice package was showing it in SD.
Maybe my fancy Pioneer Elite TV snubbed it's noce up to SD, because it looked so unclear I had trouble seeing it- the on line feed was so clear!

That coupled by whomever the color analyst was...as this WAS the Dallas feed.

The guy was the homer of homers.anybody know his name, I want to write him a letter, and tweet him. Every play seeemed to caused by Stars superiority, even the ones that weren't. People crap talk Eddie, but he has always been more fair and giving of due, as MANY of the home team 'casters, but this could wait to chime in yah yah garbage. I just hate when simple hockey bounces are suddenly the brilliance of Dallas players...

I even wondered if part of his prep for the match was him reading that article froma few days ago someone pointed out about using the off handed wins on the point for one timers from the point...the funny thing is the Stars power play set up the very same way the hawks did with a left shot left side & right shot right side.

I think the situation in Q's mind, dictated playing his top four a lot, and then TVR and and lastly Runblad as rest fillers.

The only way he gets comfotable with these guys IS playing, them, and if they mess up, that simply is how he uses this bench as a teaching device.

I bet the top four were HAPPY to pay a lot.

and finally I guess we can dismiss the "Richards has lost a step" worries as his skill hands and head along with good jump were pretty impressive, and I gotta give it to the lines Q concocted...a greta reaosn for all you hockey fans to reframe from make a list illustrting t

To all of us where you think each player should be playing, and to the Crawford detractors, you got served, I watch big parts of the other game sin my insomniatic night and he he clearly was really stellar and on.

Also though having Rousel against Kane early, pushing buttons was a nice touch to the way Future Stars Hawsk games will be played.

I for one am not sure if he was why they weren't going...I thought
Morin's feet cost them possession at least twice.

Eveybody has to get familar

Yep totally agree. Not many people have mentioned his name but I think Bickell is one of those guys playing for his roster spot come next year.
